After a little bit of work and a good deal of patience, I finally have my first book, Your Small Business Website, out in the wilds. Get it on amazon.com or download a sample chapter and templates at mitchadams.com. It costs less than a beer so even if you aren’t interested, buy it for someone who asks you website questions you don’t feel like answering…
Why a book on small business websites? Well, I have always enjoyed (and benefited from) the books other people have done. I felt the time was right for me to organize some basic knowledge I’ve gathered over the years. I thought it would be a helpful reference point for a small business owner as they set out to build their own websites.
I was motivated to get this book written and published after reading an AP article about a survey of small businesses done by Google and Ipsos. They found that about 55% of small businesses don’t have a website.
As I primarily consult and work on small business websites, I can understand that number. Even with so many services and tools available to lower the knowledge and skills necessary to start a website, some small business owners still don’t see the importance of investing in one.
A small business website, even a very simple brochure oriented website, brings legitimacy to a small business. If you are on the fence or can’t justify the costs of launching a site, keep in mind that having a simple website might just convince that borderline customer to choose you over the company without one.
This is an exciting time for creating small business websites. Every day brings new ways of thinking, new tools, and lower costs to go from idea to realization. Check out the book to get some direction on where to go next or improve on what you are already doing.
I hope you find it useful.
